The other day, we’re sipping tea in Bangkok with a friend,
and we’re surrounded by fake bags. Very well made.
So, we start thinking…
CHANEL 2.55
Either you inherit it, or you buy it vintage.
10K for a bag that everybody — literally anybody — carries?
No way. Chanel has a timeless allure,
but in a sea of identical bags, the uniqueness diminishes.
In 2024, why pay a fortune when the statement
it makes is diluted by ubiquity?
The untouchable of all — HERMÈS.
Birkin or Kelly — you should never carry a fake Hermès.
It’s still very much a sacrilege. Even if the dupe is insanely good.
You pay for the quality. And Hermès quality is definitely worth the price
of – at least – 10K. Hermès is a status symbol that has transcended mere fashion, becoming an artifact of artistry.
Owning a Hermès is akin to holding a piece of luxury history.
DIOR
You can’t carry a fake of this uber-luxurious house. It’s just bad taste.
Dior’s designs are an embodiment of high fashion. Fakes cannot capture the nuanced craftsmanship that defines Dior, making them a poor substitute for the real deal.
LOUIS VUITTON
If it’s one of the most copied bags in the world,
why would you pay 2K to have it sitting next to a fake one for 20€?
Definitely ok if it’s a fake. The monogrammed LV bag is ubiquitous, and in an age where everyone’s got one, the lines between real and fake blur.
If authenticity is your game, maybe skip the Louis altogether.
Any bag deemed “Bag of the Season” by Vogue.
We’re living in a world of con artists and fake news, so why invest in a bag that will disappear from the fashion memory as fast as the evening news?
Trends are fleeting, and investing in something so transient is often meaningless. Unless you’re gifted those real-time « ICONS » – skip the seasonal must-haves.
In a world overflowing with imitation, the real luxury lies in knowing when to invest and when to opt for an artful dupe.
